Kosiniak-Kamysz, who also serves as a deputy prime minister, told reporters after a Cabinet meeting that Sweden’s proposal to supply three A26 Blekinge-class submarines was deemed the most suitable for operations in the Baltic Sea.
He said the Swedish offer includes additional investment in Poland’s defence industry, including equipping Polish shipyards with the capacity to service the vessels, as well as a commitment by Sweden to purchase Polish-made armaments.
The package also features a so-called "gap-filler" solution to bridge the period before the new submarines enter service, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
Beginning in 2027, the Polish navy is expected to gain access to a modern training submarine to replace its aging ORP Orzeł.
Kosiniak-Kamysz said he hopes an intergovernmental agreement would be signed by the end of the year.
